Retractable patio awnings are the most flexible way to shade a patio in St. Augustine. Extend them when the sun gets hot. Roll them back when you want open sky. Most customers use theirs almost every day from April through October.
Fixed awnings stay in one place year round. Retractable awnings give you control. That's the main difference.
A retractable awning has an aluminum frame with folding arms. The fabric wraps around a roller tube mounted to the wall. When you extend the awning, the arms push out and the fabric unfurls. Retract it and the fabric rolls back up flush against the wall.
Manual awnings use a hand crank. Motorized awnings use a remote, wall switch, or phone app. Most new installs go motorized — the cost bump is small and the daily convenience is huge.
Our climate is tough on outdoor fabric. Summer afternoons hit 95 degrees. Salt air drifts in from the Anastasia State Park coast and Matanzas Bay. UV exposure is brutal nearly every month of the year.
Retractable awnings protect themselves. When you aren't using the patio, roll the fabric up and it stays out of the weather. That alone doubles the fabric's usable life compared to a fixed system.
Most residential patios take a single awning between 10 and 20 feet wide. Projections range from 8 to 14 feet. Larger patios get two awnings side by side or one oversized unit up to 40 feet.
We measure every space before quoting. Wall height, mounting surface, and patio layout all affect what works.
We use solution-dyed acrylic fabric on almost every install. Sunbrella and Dickson are the two brands we trust. Both carry 10 year fade warranties and resist mold, mildew, and salt.
Colors range from solid neutrals to bold stripes. We bring physical samples to every estimate so you can see them against your home.
Motorized awnings come with a wall switch by default. Most customers add one or more upgrades:
Wind sensors are the most important upgrade. A sudden afternoon thunderstorm can shred a deployed awning if it catches a gust. The sensor retracts it before damage happens.
Most retractable awning installs take one day. We remove any old awning, mount the new frame to the wall or fascia, install the motor and electrical run, and test every function before we leave.
Lead time from order to install is typically 4 to 6 weeks. Custom colors or oversized units can run 8 weeks. You'll get a firm install date when we place the order.
We install retractable awnings across St. Augustine, Ponte Vedra Beach, Palm Coast, and every community in between. Coastal homes, historic district properties, and golf course communities all get the same attention to detail.
